What is a Protonaut?

Summary​

A Protonaut is an onchain character that is completely native to the blockchain that it exists on.

Unlike a lot of other NFT's that are tokens that represent an image or other type of file stored on a centralized database, all of the attributes and equipment information, as well as the image, are stored within the smart contract.

This means that as long as the blockchain persists, the Protonaut token will exist and be able to be accessed.

Onchain Signifigance​

Like fully onchain games, storing the information and main mechanics of the Protonaut character onchain, as opposed to a centralized database, offers several significant advantages:

  1. Decentralization: By storing all data on the blockchain, Protonauts are not reliant on any single entity or server. This ensures that the data is always accessible and cannot be tampered with by any centralized authority.

  2. Immutability: Once data is written to the blockchain, it cannot be altered or deleted. This guarantees the integrity and authenticity of the Protonaut's attributes and image, providing users with a trustworthy and permanent record.

  6. Longevity: As long as the blockchain network exists, the data stored on it will persist. This ensures that Protonauts will remain accessible and usable for the foreseeable future, regardless of changes in technology or ownership of centralized servers.

  7. Ownership: Users have true ownership of their Protonauts, as the assets are stored in their personal blockchain wallets. This means they have full control over their Protonauts and can transfer, sell, or use them as they see fit without needing permission from any third party.
